genetics to identify genes contributing to
risk of complex diseases,
which includes most chronic diseases and birth
defects. She has a long-standing
interest in birth defects, particularly
cleft lip and cleft palate.
She completed her PhD in Human Genetics at
the University of Michigan
Ann Arbor in 1978 and has been a member of

between these genes and environmental
risk factors.
